SCBA is a group of autonomous (self-governing) congregations, cooperating together as Southern Baptist Churches here in South Central Pennsylvania. Our 21 churches and 23 pastors serve Berks, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Northumberland and Schuykill counties.  On any given weekend you will find us meeting in traditional buildings, store fronts, and in a variety of locations. You will hear a variety of languages and experience every style of worship.

Our purpose is to help strengthen churches, assist in starting new churches and cooperate with others to grow the Kingdom of God.

Our vision is to...

Equip churches to fulfill their God-given purpose,

Engage churches in starting healthy church plants,

Encourage churches through regular times of fellowship, and

Enable churches to cooperate in missions and ministry throughout the world.

If I can personally assist you in anyway please contact me.  Thanks for visiting!

The Rev. Ben Scott, Ph.D.

Director of Missions

  • Clearest Resource So Far Regarding PPP Funding for Churches

Don't pay $2,500 to one of the recent big name SBC-affiliated organizations to complete a Small Business Administration loan for you! I participated in that webcast, and then I found this:

PPP is the Paycheck Protection Program authorized by the CARES Act, a short-term stimulus program open to businesses and non-profit organizations, including churches. It provides 2.5 times your monthly payroll expenditures to help your church get through these 10 weeks of chaos, and the interest rate is 0.5%.

The application is two pages and requires some additional documentation about your ministry's payroll, including healthcare costs you pay for your pastor and staff. Most of the add-ons can be printed from Quickbooks or whatever software your church payroll person uses.

PPP is regarded as forgivable, so it ends up being a grant as long as churches use it towards payroll and keep paying their employees for eight more weeks (minimum).

A benefit of SCBA membership is that your Director of Missions is a seasoned grant writer, successful at writing, administering, and closing two SBA grants from 2006-2012. This service is available to member churches in good standing (participation and giving). Let SCBA know how to help your church access this resource during mandatory closures.

  • How to Livestream Your Church Service This Sunday!

Several SCBA churches have experimented with Facebook Live, Zoom videoconferencing, and pre-recorded YouTube programming to encourage church members during this time of mandated closures. Here's a helpful resource to keep your church going.

  • Pastors: Join Us for Prayer Every Tuesday at 10am!

Every Tuesday at 10am, Pastors get together via the Zoom videoconference app (and in person at the Elizabethtown Association Office) for prayer and encouragement. All SBC pastors are welcome to join us. Contact Dr. Ben Scott for the URL (web address) at 717-367-9779.

  • Save the Date! SCBA's Spring Meeting is April 21st, 6pm, Etown!

SCBA's Spring Meeting will be filled with church and program updates and great fellowship. All 21 of our churches and their members are encouraged to participate. Spring meeting begins at 6pm at the Association office in Elizabethtown. See you then and there!
